BS 9999:2008

October 2008 saw  the publication of a major new British Standard that gives recommendations and guidance on the design, management and use of buildings to achieve an acceptable level of fire safety for all people in and around buildings entitled: BS 9999:2008 Code of practice for fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings.

The standard builds on government guidance to legislative requirements, providing an advanced approach to fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings. BS 9999 provides more emphasis on the need to provide adequate information in the form of signs and signage to safeguard the lives of staff and visitors.

Fire safety signs and way finding solutions form an integral part of the overall fire safety strategy of a building and are fundamental to the communication of good fire safety management information. Clearly visible and unambiguous signage is essential for speedy escape, particularly in buildings where many of the occupants might be unfamiliar with the building layout.

How we can help.

Our 3D Evacuation Maps are designed to assist in an effective and efficient evacuation of a building to a place of relative safety.

The Maps can be used to assist in identifying the closest and quickest escape route as well as locating the nearest alarm point and fire extinguishers. They provide a comprehensive arrangement of simplified floor design, text instructions and easily identifiable symbols, with the ability to incorporate information such as safe refuge and internal shelters.

Why 3D?

The information sent to the brain from the eyes when viewing the a 3D floor plan provides a more dynamic image providing faster, easier to recognize and more intelligibly perceptible and useful information than standard “flat” two dimensional floor plans.

In an emergency our 3D Evacuation Maps produce a more rapid interpretation and quicker response to the crisis at hand.

Being easier and quicker to understand reduces the response time for a person to orient themselves as to their location within the facility, the nearest exit, fire extinguisher or other pertinent information they might need.

If you would like to receive more information about this service or would like to discuss how we can help you achieve the requirements of this section of the

BS 9999 standard, please do not hesitate to contact us.
